On that note I really love how the book was like this is Aziraphale he's faggy as all fuck but he's technically nonbinary. I think he's still gay like "gay man who isn't a man" is a whole type of guy. "Sexless unless really making an effort" amen to that brother. Aziraphale is only a man in the context of being gay and I know like several queens that applies to

Not only a whole type of guy but like a classic flavor. Original style. We've had these since the dawn of time. Well I guess Aziraphale did it first actually. World's first pansy at the beginning of time. He saw men be invented and was like "I like these"

THE Southern Pansy.

Why are people with down's syndrome always left out of conversations about neurodivergency and intellectual disorders? They deserve better.

why is it that any kind of post like this automatically devolves into someone in the comments turning it into some kind of thought experiment about eugenics? like the mere mention of people with down syndrome just existing - just existing - sends people into a tailspin of debate over the ethics of their existence, the health concerns, the life expectancy, the countries that are "eliminating" it, etc. and i have seen so many leftist spaces turn the mention of down syndrome into an abortion debate, like it's impossible to be pro-choice and also acknowledge that people with down syndrome might possibly deserve a little bit better than the current hand they're being dealt. why?

like do you realize how fucked up all of this is? do you realize how fucked up it is for a person to say "hey we need to include these incredibly vulnerable and marginalized people in our activism" and for someone else to inevitably and immediately jump into the "is it or is it not eugenics to abort"? do you realize how fucked up it is that i look in these comments and see people spouting off life expectancy statistics, as if that's somehow an appropriate answer to the question being posed? is that really where your mind goes to, when someone says a group of marginalized people needs more support? yes, they very much do deserve better.

My favorite gag is mixing up the distinction between oft confused terms. Like, oh no, it's quite simple: stalactites have hit the earth's surface but stalagmites are found in space. Meteorites can be distinguished by their round snouts and asteroids by their sharper snouts. Oh, and remember: crocodiles hang from the ceiling. It's alligators that point up from the ground.

need more queer books in your life? mad at all the book bans? wish you could read books about people actually like you?

the Queer Books Database is a free, online searchable database that lists queer rep in over 2,500 fiction and 500 non-fiction books! you can filter by age, genre, year, and specific identity–including race, disability, mental illness, and neurodivergence

here’s some ideas of what you can search for:

  • a legal thriller featuring a bisexual transgender woman or a sci-fi with a disabled black gay man
  • Young Adult, Middle Grade, and Children’s books in both fiction and non-fiction titles
  • classic queer lit from 1872 to 1956 (Carmilla to Giovanni’s Room)
  • biographies of famous historical and modern activists, musicians, athletes, immigrants, and writers
  • supportive spiritual texts and guidance from community leaders (filter by fifteen different religions!)
  • representation for LGBT identities under the “plus,” characters of color, fat rep, neurodivergence, older characters, questioning and closeted characters, religious identity, disabled characters–and more!

check with your local library to find these titles or ask about Inter-Library Loans to grab one from a library nearby! this really helps support libraries, authors, and me, an autistic transgender librarian :)

FINALLY something better than google when I need to buff up our collection!

game companies should be fucking EMBARRASSED about being inaccessible. it should be mortifying to ship a game with shit captions or no UI scaling options or no option to disable flashing / strobing effects. games lauding their character customization should be laughingstocks for not including hearing aids or congenital disorders or prosthetic limbs. EA should be publicly fucking humiliated for the sims series being 23 goddamn years old and include cats and dogs and horses and werewolves and zombies and mermaids and star wars and not FUCKING WHEELCHAIRS.

visual novel games should be screen reader compatible and controls should be fully re-mappable by fucking default also.

Can I Play That? does reviews of accessibility in games btw. even if you do not need accessibility features personally I think it's important to familiarize yourself with the range of options that are or aren't commonly available + reflect on who is being left out of gaming communities and development because of it

and also personally blowing a kiss to every modder who has put in the time and effort that devs chose not to in order to represent and include disabled people. I love you
